This educational course is based on the NIDA research report: Prescription Opioids and Heroin Use. Research conducted during the opioid epidemic has produced some interesting facts about prescribed opioids and heroin use. This training highlights research that NIDA has completed focused on prevention and intervention methods. This education covers the Clinical Intake and Screening skill of the Eight Counselor Skill Groups ascribed by NAADAC and NCC AP.
Upon completion of this education course, the participant will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge that prescription opioid use is a risk factor for heroin use;
- Understand that increased drug availability is associated with increased use and overdose;
- Identify prevention and treatment methods for prescription opioid abuse and heroin use.
