This education course is covers SAMHSAs TIP 35: Enhancing Motivation for Change updated in 2019. This covers covers up to date evidence on motivation-enhancing approaches and strategies. It describes how substance use treatment providers can use these approaches and strategies to increase participation and retention in treatment. This education covers the Counseling Service and Treatment Planning skills of the Eight Counselor Skill Groups ascribed by NAADAC and NCC AP.

Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this education course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the evidence based practices used to enhance motivation for change in substance use treatment;
  2. Describe the benefits in treatment for enhancing motivation for change;
