This education course is focused on 42 CFR Part 2. This course addresses the legislation to support confidentiality and the sharing of information for people living with substance use disorders. The 42 CFR part 2 is the second portion of the 42 CFR from 1970, and specifically focuses on protection from stigma, discrimination, and serious negative consequences when treatment information is disclosed without individuals knowledge or consent. This education covers Legal, Ethical, and Professional development skill of the Eight Counselor Skill Groups ascribed by NAADAC and NCC AP.
Upon completion of this education course, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the protections under the 42 CFR part 2 regarding protected health information and services.
- Identify how 42 CFR part 2 applies to substance use treatment services.
- Describe the importance of implementing the protections within workforce.
