The training covers recent data on prevalence of opioid misuse and death rates in the Black/African American population; contextual factors & challenges to prevention & treatment; innovative outreach & engagement strategies to connect people to evidence-based treatment; and the importance of community voice. This education covers the Treatment Planning skill of the Eight Counselor Skill Groups ascribed by NAADAC and NCC AP.

 

Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this education course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the role culture in treatment planning;
  2. Describe routes to opioid misuse and overdose deaths;
  3. Identify challenges to prevention, treatment, and recovery;
  4. Understand community-informed strategies to address opioid misuse and oud in Black/African American communities.
